The Grand Magistry
The Grand Magistry Council is the governing body of the Order Worldwide. A member must attain the rank of Knight Grand Cross to be eligible to serve on the Grand Magistry Council. The Grand Collar of the Order is conferred by the Grand Master on members who have performed great service and to members of the Grand Magistry
The Grand Magistry Council
The Grand Magistry Council consists of the Grand Master, Lieutenant Grand Master, Grand Chancellor, Grand Marshal, Grand Bailiff, Grand Hospitaller and Grand Prior and such Clerical Officers as appropriate to the proceedings:
The Grand Master
The Grand Master Prof.Dr. Sir Georgios Angelinakis is the judicial and head of the Order and is elected to the position by the Grand Magistry Council in plenary session. Once installed the Grand Master names and appoints all Grand dignitaries to the Grand Magistry Council. All other ranks, officers. Offices and members of the Order therein are appointed or created and by him after consultation with his Grand Magistry. There is also a position of Deputy Grand Master which is currently held by His Excellency Dr.Sir Romesh Jayasinghe.
Where the succession to Grand Master is disputed, the Lieutenant Grand Master shall assume temporarily the office of the Grand Master and within thirty days from that date shall convene the Grand Magistry Council in Plenary session, to examine the claims and proclaim the accession of the new Grand Master. The Order is directed and administered by the grand Master, with the assistance of the Grand Chancellor.
The Lieutenant Grand Master
The Lieutenant Grand Master: Acts for the Grand Master of the Order, but only in cases where the Grand Master is unable to carrying out his duties. The Lieutenant Grand Master is nominated directly by the Grand Master as is nominally the Grand Master Apparent
Until such time as the Grand Master chooses to designate his Lieutenant Grand Master the Grand Chancellor will fill this position for periods not exceeding 28 days and will sign as HONOURABLE Lieutenant Grand Master.
The Grand Chancellor
The Grand Chancellor Prof.Dr. Sir Lakshman Madurasinghe K St J, KGC OMR is the head of the Grand Chancellery and second in command of the Order appointed for life. He carries magisterial decisions into effect, directs the activities and as required Preside over fraternity ceremonies and investiture ceremonies of the Order Worldwide. He countersigns all warrants and briefs, decrees and diplomas issued by the Order. He recommends and warrants approval for affiliation and close cooperation with similar orders worldwide at his sole discretion and under his signature authorise Chapters and branches worldwide to extend its activities as required.
He ensures that the Grand Magisterial Seal has been affixed to all documents issued by the Order. He assigns the duties of the Grand Marshal, the Grand Bailiff, the Grand Prior and the Grand Hospitaller.
The Grand Marshal
The Grand Marshal: He is the Chief Ceremonial functionary of the Order and, as such, deals with all questions relative to the insignia and uniform of the Order. In case of necessity he assumes and acts in the function of Grand Chancellor.t
The Grand Bailiff
The Grand Bailiff: He has charge of all charitable causes of the Order and will report all applications from worthy causes to the Grand Magistry along with written reports of the merits of such cause.
The Grand Hospitaller
The Grand Hospitaller. He directs the heath care projects of the order and advises the Grand Magisty Council of the progress on such ventures
The Grand Priors
The Grand Priors A Grand Prior is in charge of all commands, commanderies, priories and heads the Grand Priory for a given geographic area or area having a common language . They are responsible for recommending to the Grand Magistry Council changes, growth and discipline in each of their commands.
The Clerical Members of the Order
The Clerical Members of the Order: Members of the Order who are ordained Priests are, as such, Chaplains of the Order; Prelates are styled as Almoner. The Chaplains and the Almoners form the religious chapter of the Order having religious and charitable aims, the latter being pursued in collaboration with the Grand Hospitaller.
